Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a multiethnic background. Jacqueline's parents are Malaysian and the Sri Lankan. Their father Elroy Fernandez hails from Sri Lanka. She has two younger brothers and one older sister. In the wake of turmoil in Sri Lanka, her family relocated to Bahrain in the late 1980s. The schooling she completed was in Bahrain and she received the Scholarship for the University of Sydney. There she was awarded the Media and Communications degree. She also attended an institute called the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. In addition, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6th of 2006, and then was a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she took home her the Miss Sri Lanka title. After that, she went on television as a host of the show about Sri Lankan businesses named Lanka Business Report. Padukone had the honor of being a daughter and badminton champ Prakash Padukone. Padukone grew as a child in Bangalore, but she came from Copenhagen. In her teens, Padukone competed in national championships of badminton at both the regional and international level. However, she left the sport to become a fashion designer. Padukone is of Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her primary language. Her ancestors hail from the village Padukone in Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district of Karnataka state, which is located in India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the 1980s. Her mother, a travel agency, also hails from the village.
